History of Technology People
In touch with our Swabian roots, open to the world and at home on all continents
Our roots go back to the 1970s, when we began developing and producing highly efficient machine tools. We launched the Tetra-Mill onto the market In 1989. This was our first four-spindle machining center, and enabled our customers to make quantum leaps in productivity. Our sales have increased tenfold since 1995, and we continue to invest in the growth of the SW Group: we acquired the former bartsch GmbH, a specialist in the development and implementation of automated manufacturing systems, in 2015 and have integrated it into our company as the new SW Automation GmbH division
We now offer complete production solutions from a single source. The plant in Suzhou, in China, started operations in 2016, and the employees at our company headquarters in Waldmössingen in the Black Forest moved into a new administrative building in 2017. We founded a Mexican subsidiary a few months ago, and are currently building another plant in the US.
Our traditional home / Waldmössingen
In addition to the assembly of highly productive machine tools, SW also concentrates its research and development activities in its own technology center here.
The headquarters of SW are in Waldmössingen in Germany’s Black Forest. This is where we develop the machines that we produce in this plant, as well as in Michigan, USA, and Suzhou, China. SW Automation in Tettnang on Lake Constance provides automation solutions for complete production lines, with everything from robots to information flow solutions.
Two-thirds of our customers are Tier 1 and Tier 2 suppliers to the automotive industry, with an emphasis on powertrain applications. The spectrum of manufactured components ranges from steering knuckles, impellers and transmission covers to cylinder heads. In other industries, our users manufacture components for mechanical engineering, as well as contact-sensitive light-metal surfaces.
